A journey to the past through the Sumail Gap that divides the Western and Eastern Hajars and onto the Old Capital of Oman, Nizwa, famous for its silver souq and a big round fort. After visiting the souq and the fort, we move to Bahla with the huge loam fort which is under renovation at present. Bahla is also known as the pottery capital of Oman. Because of its cultural value, Bahla is placed in the UNESCO’s list of heritage monuments. Next visit is Jabrin fort, where you will find one of the most magnificent forts of Oman with its painted ceiling, dungeons, and hidden passages. Return to Muscat in the evening.

First stop is at Barka, a seaside town with small souqs and a fort along the shoreline. As you approach Nakhl, keep an eye out for the fortress that sits on a hillock outside the town. The fort’s origin is pre-Islamic with major contributions by the Al Ya’ruba and the Al Bu Sayed dynasties. We visit the fort. Visit the mineral-laden hot springs water in Nakhl. We then move to Rustaq to visit another pre-Islamic fort. Later in the evening we return to Muscat.

We board a/c 4wd we travel to Fanjah, where we stop to take photos of an abandoned village We drive through the Sumail Gap that divides the Western and Eastern Hajars. See the ruins of the old mercantile community of Al Mansfah near Ibra. Head towards the enchanting Wadi Bani Khalid. Drive past the village with its endless date plantations. Reach the magnificent Wadi. The pools are cool, deep and absolutely stunning and the silky water perfect for a long swim. From here, proceed to Wahiba, the undulating golden sands. Indulge in some thrilling Dune Bashing. Return to Muscat in the evening.

Leave Muscat at 8 am. Travel via Fanjah, Izki and Nizwa. Stop at Nizwa for a stroll through the Old Capital of Oman. After reaching the region of Al Hamra we visit the scenic Wadi Ghul and stop at the old village of Ghul to see the abandoned Persian ruins. From here we drive along Wadi Nakhr, also referred to as the Grand Canyon with breathtaking views. At the end of the Wadi is a village where rugs with bright colors and designs are made by local weavers. Visit the local weaver and haggle for their wares. From here we make our way up to Jebel Shams, the highest peak in Oman at 3000 metres. From here you will have an outstanding view deep into the Grand Canyon of Oman. Later in the evening return to Muscat.

Leave Muscat at 8 am. Drive through Sumail Gap and Izki. We drive to the roof of Oman, the Saiq Plateau which for hundreds of years has been accessible only by donkeys. The sight of terraced gardens is very interesting. A variety of fruits like, pomegranates, apricot, and lemon are grown here. There are rose gardens here and they bloom in April. There are are interesting walks in Wadi Bani Habib, Shrejaya, Al ain and Aqur. The weather here is cool and dry. Return to Muscat late in the evening.

Visit the Seeb fish souk. We then head to Wadi Sahtan via the road that leads from a round-about just north of Rustaq. This road is a connector with the interior town of Ibri via Wadi Bani Ghafir, Wadi Mabrah and Wadi Hidaq. Drive through narrow tracks and dodging boulders once you reach the entrance of the Wadi. We reach Sahtan Bowl which old timers call the “mandoos”, “The Chest of Oman” because it is so secluded. Here you will see small settlements set among lush plantations. Return to Muscat.

We drive along the Batinah Coast towards the most beautiful remote village in Oman, Billad sayt in the Western Hajars. Near Awabi we turn to a beautiful wadi, Wadi Bani Awf. After a spectacular drive we reach the beautiful village of Bilad Sayt, where your eyes are treated to an amazing view, of Palm groves and terraced gardens between the stone walls, We head back to Muscat via Nakhl.

Leave Muscat. Head towards Barka, where we will visit the Camel Breeding Farm, which is home to 100’s of Omani thoroughbreds. We then proceed to Wadi Abyadh. On the way you will see a picturesque village set among date plantations. Enjoy the crystal clear rock pools and experience an adrenaline rush with some wadi bashing. Later we travel to Wadi Mistal which cuts through the Hajar Mountain Ranges. After a 30 km drive through the wadi, we reach the face of a mountain which is ophiolite; there are two villages here, Hadash and Wekan. We turn towards the right and drive up the steep and winding rock, to visit the agricultural village of Wekan which is 1700m above sea level. Marvel at the beautiful landscape and enjoy the cool and pleasant weather here. You will find Pomegranates, grapes, walnuts, apricots and dates grown here. Return to Muscat.

Travel through the Coast from Muscat to Quriyat and over the plateau down to the narrow coastal track. Reach Wadi Shab. Take a hike up one of Oman’s scenic wadis. Picnic lunch. At the end of Wadi Shab there is a swim through the famous keyhole into the secluded world thrilling of fantasy. Stop at Fins Beach. Relax a while. Return to Muscat.

We will take you to Marina Bandar Rawdha. Embark a traditional Omani Dhow for a 2 hours Dhow Cruise. We pass the Yacht club of Muscat and fishing village of Sidab. The harbor of historic Muscat, the Sultans Palace flanked by Jalali and Mirani forts and then sail past Al Bustan Palace, Oman’s premium hotel. From here you go by Qantab and at Bandar Jissah you can have a glimpse of the Shangri-la Resorts. Back to Muscat. Kahwa and date on board.

A journey down the coast stopping off at Mazara, Bimah Sink Hole, Qalhat (Bibi Miriam’s Tomb), with picnic lunch served at Mokallah Beach. In Sur we’ll visit the shipyards where you might see the old dhows built by hand the same way they have been made for generations. We reach Ras Al Hadd. After a sumptuous dinner, we go to the beach to observe the nesting habits of the green turtles. Over night at Ras Al Hadd Hotel / Camp. On the following day we’ll move along the coast to the bluffs at Ad Daffah and on to the interior, visiting the Rashid Al Hamoda Mosque, Bedouin Camps in the Desert Woodlands (Wahibah Sands). We’ll stop at Al Mansfah, the old mercantile community, before returning to Muscat through the mountains via the Sumail Gap.

From Muscat travel to the interior via Fanjah, Izki, Nizwa, stopping in Nizwa for a stroll through the Old Quarter of Nizwa and continuing on to Al Hamra. Stop at old village of Ghul to see the abandoned Persian ruins and travel up the canyon to Nakhr to meet the villagers. From Ghul, drive to the top of the canyon near the summit of Jebel Shams. Picnic lunch near the canyon. Visit with the local weavers and haggle for their wares. Dinner and overnight at the Jebel Shams Camp. On the second day, after breakfast, hike down the canyon rim, 1 km above the floor, to the abandoned terraces and cliff dwellings. Then we drive back to Muscat. On our way we stop at Misfat to see a picturesque village strapped on to the side of a mountain.

A journey to the past leading from Muscat through the Sumail Gap on to Nizwa, Bahla, Jabrin and on to Ibri. Spectacular fortresses and castles, markets of past and present are seen. Dinner and overnight at Ibri Hotel. On the second day, visit the ruined city of Sulaif and the Beehive tombs of Bat before passing through the mountains at the Wadi Bani Ghafir cutoff, on through Rustaq on the fringe of the Northern Hajars and back to Muscat.

From Muscat travel to Fanjah and through the Sumail Gap. We travel via Ibra and reach the abandoned village of Al Mansfah. Much of the charm and character of this old mercantile village has not been washed away still. Our next stop is the Mudharib village, another thriving oasis. Lunch at local restaurant at Bidiya. After lunch proceed to the undulating sands of Wahibah. Indulge in dune bashing. Camel rides are optional. Enjoy a Bedouin dinner. Sleep under the stars in a Bedouin camp. Depart in the morning after breakfast for Wadi Bani Khalid for a hike and swim in clear water pools. Return to Muscat.

From Muscat travel through Sumail gap and Izki to drive up to the roof of Oman, the Saiq Plateau which for hundreds of years was accessible only on donkeys. You will experience almost immediately the change in the climatic condition. We will have lunch at local restaurant or indulge in picnic lunch. A walk through the ‘hanging gardens’ along the falaj will be a lasting memory. Dinner and overnight at Jebel Akhdar Hotel. After breakfast we stroll around to see some beautiful sights. Later we return to Muscat.
