Water sports

Not a diver? We will keep you busy anyway!

At the Oman Dive Center we don’t only take care of divers. We have a wide range of water sport activities for those guests who want to enjoy the sea in their own way.

Watersports at Oman Dive Center

Snorkeling

The waters around Muscat are perfect for snorkeling. The shallow parts of the reef are the ideal location for a relaxing swim with mask, snorkel and fins to watch the abundant marine life below. Even from the surface you can see turtles, moray eels, sting rays and dozens of other tiny creatures unlike any you have seen before.

Most of our dive sites are also suitable for snorkeling, so you can join one of our dive boats, sharing the trip with the divers - no worries, they don’t bite smile.

    We have two different trips:

    • The morning trip starts between 08:30 and 09:00. The boat takes you to two different sites with approximately one hour’s break in between. The return to the dive center is scheduled between 13:00 and 13:30.
    • The afternoon trip leaves between 14:30 and 15:00 to visit one site only.

If you prefer discovering what’s going on underwater in our bay, we have all the necessary equipment for rent.

Kayaking

The calm waters of our bay provide the ideal environment for both beginners and more experienced paddlers. If you want to add a little spice to your adventure, you can exit the bay and paddle out to one of the small islands in Bandar Jussa or through the arch of Jussa Point.

At present we have a “fleet” of 5 single and 5 double kayaks for rent.

Dolphin Watching

The waters of the Gulf of Oman -rich in fish- have long been home to these efficient hunters. Curious and friendly, these marvelous sea mammals often come very close to the boat. Though it’s not guaranteed you will see them, pods of hundreds of dolphins are regularly spotted during our trips.

There are mainly two species of dolphins in our waters:

    • The Spinner Dolphin or Stenella Longirostris is small and fast. It can be recognized by its dark grey back and white belly as well as by its long thin snout.
    • The Bottle Nose Dolphin or Tursiop Truncatus is bigger than the Spinner Dolphin. It is light grey with a shorter, slightly fatter snout.

Coastal Trip

The coastline around Muscat is one of outstanding beauty. In Bandar Khayran, deep bays are cut into the mountain forming a labyrinth of fjords, small islands and secluded beaches for the visitor to enjoy. Further up the coast towards Mutrah, 16th century Portuguese watchtowers guard the palace of the country’s ruler Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. In the port of Mutrah, some of the royal ships can be admired from afar. Towering above Mutrah souq in the distance, a few forts –once used to defend the country against invaders- watch over the old town and serve as a reminder of Oman’s rich history. The coastal tour is a unique way to get a glimpse of the Muscat area while comfortably cruising through its waters.

Sunset Cruise

If a romantic boat cruise watching the sun set behind the mountains is what you’ve always dreamed of, then, at Oman Dive Center, we make your dreams come true.
